Johnson Napoleon
Founder/CEO - Azure College
Mr. Jhonson Napoleon is the Founder and CEO of Azure College as well as Azure Media Group, LLC. Mr. Jhonson immigrated to the United States from Haiti with the knowledge that education was the key to not only transforming his own life, but also the lives of others.
Armed with the prolific words of Martin Luther King Jr. – “Faith is taking the first step, even if you don’t see the whole staircase.” - he launched a career path that began as a security guard at Burdiness, now Macy’s and quickly grew to real estate. After a few years of success, he used his business acumen to benefit his home country. There, he successfully pulled Port-au-Prince’s Universite Lumiere out of bankruptcy by increased its enrollment tenfold. He also helped to graduate the initial group of students from the university’s medical school, the first group of doctors coming out of a privately held medical program the Haiti’s history.
To increase the knowledge base of the school’s graduates, he forged a relationship between the Center for Haitian Studies - a non-profit dedicated to provided health care to underserved Haitians in Miami – and the University of Miami Medical School, where he established six-week rotations for Universite Lumiere med school graduates.
Back in the U.S., Napoleon returned to real estate, becoming an Accredited Land Consultant and founding a real estate agency that included many brokers. And while most saw the decline of the housing boom as adversity, Napoleon used it as an opportunity to shift his focus back to health care education. He invested in a small educational health center that eventually became Azure College, the first accredited Haitian-owned College in the United States and the first black-owned college to offer a nursing degree program in South Florida. It now has three separate campuses in south Florida.
Napoleon is a graduate of Miami Dade College, where he received an associate of arts degree in computer engineering, and Barry University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in computer information and a master’s degree in information technology. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in management from Harvard University, and serves as a member of the Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities, the Florida Association of Postsecondary Schools and Colleges and the South Florida Hospital and Healthcare Association.
He is also the owner of Azure Media LLC, which includes 6 radio stations (three AM radio stations and three FM radio stations) in Florida and Boston, making it the fastest-growing black-owned media group in Florida and the largest Haitian-owned media group in the nation.
Napoleon’s work has earned him numerous accolades, including being named one of the 10 up and coming Haitian leaders in Miami Dade County, the top 100 Caribbean leaders in Florida by the ICABA, as well as one of the top alumni of Miami Dade College.
Napoleon has three sons, in whom Napoleon has instilled his own love of travel with trips around the globe. He earned his private pilot’s license in 2014.
